The Beauty of Brown with @LupitaNyongo #Oscars #ESSENCE

Ocsar Look:
Headband designed by Fred Leighton
Hair by Larry Sims
Makeup by Nick Barose

She brings a glow of sunshine with her every where she goes.... Ms. Lupita Nyong'o.  Last week at the Essence Women in Hollywood Luncheon, she graciously spoke about once not liking her skin complexion.  Her words pierced my heart because I have once been at a place of not liking what I saw in the mirror.  To hear Lupita share how she overcame that trial was also a blessing.

Lupita Nyong'o attends the 7th annual ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood luncheon in Beverly Hills on Feb. 27.

Here is Lupita's speech:

Lupita Nyong'o was given Essence’s Breakthrough Performance award for her work in ‘12 Years a Slave.’

THE HAIR STORY

I recently relaxed my hair. I'm totally in love with it and harbor no regrets.  My recent ah-ha hair moment was realizing the only way I "now" desired to wear my hair natural was in a fade.  I am extremely comfortable with really short hair.  After I shaved my head, I learned how to love another part of who I was: ALL OF ME!

What I know for sure...

I'm never afraid to cut my hair.
I will always have the desire to wear my fade.
My fade is my comfort zone.

Our hair is an extension of who we are. Our style. Our self love. Our outward expression of beauty is apart of what moves us to choose a particular style.  For me, it's very simple: Because I have learned to love me, I love who I am with or without the world's standard of "beautiful hair".

I'd love to hear your "hair story" here on the blog!

xoxo

Winter Skin Arsenal Keeper: HERBACIN KAMILLE HAND CREAM #winter #skincare #herbacin

Herbacin Kamille + Glycerine Hand CreamAll of you is important. Proper skincare isn't just about the face. Keeping our hands and complete body at peace is necessary. I've been using Herbacin Kamille Hand Cream and wooo hooo, ya' girl hasn't had the ashy hands fight! Thank goodness.  I pay attention to skincare and that includes my hands. Yours, too. There's nothing like manicured nails and ashy cuticles and skin.

Herbacin Kamille Hand Cream is a glycerin based cream that fights chapped skin, dryness and roughness. It's packed with natural plant extracts, silicone and vegetable glycerin. I like it because the scent isn't overpowering and it's not greasy.  My skin stays soft and moisturized even through washing them constantly throughout the day.

Find Herbacin products at your local Walgreens
3.3oz size/ $5.99

Beaute Memories of #2013

2013 has been what I call, "The Experience".  I had good moments.  Moments I'd like to have changed.  Moments I loved.  Moments I wished were nonexistent.  With all, it was a year of growth.  As a woman, I've grown.  As a friend, I've grown. As a supporter, I've grown.  As an artist and business woman, I've grown.

The final moment I want to share is the celebratory moment of my website going live.  For the past few years, I've been blessed to get a lot of jobs based on referrals.  Transparent moment: IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK! I was referred to an agency and I wasn't selected.  After hard core honest tear talk with a friend and fellow artist, she believed it was because I didn't have a website. I had been using my blog to advertise my work.  It works, but only for a season.  On a Saturday I made a decision that I didn't this issue to continue being an issue.  The following Monday, my site was complete. Kickbutt lessons get results! I'm thankful for "my boo" who didn't hold back on the truth. YOU ROCK! *wink*

I'm excited about 2014! There are great rewards in store for preparation and I believe I'm ready! I can't wait to share what happens next!
